Friends and Family – We Love… Slam

Saturday, September 1st, 2012

Looking tough and Glaswegian

Hailing from the wet streets of Glasgow, this producer/DJ duo are no strangers to the holy vaults of We Love.. at Space. Defining techno in Scotland in the early 90s, Stuart MacMillan and Orde Meikle have had a firm hand in creating some of the most seminal memories for ravers from the original halcyon club and rave days.

Co-founding Soma Quality Records with label boss Dave Clarke in 1991, Slam have released numerous tracks which, to this day, generate nothing short of goosebumps of the highest order – their most recognisable records being ‘Eterna’, ‘Lifetime’ and one of the 1990s most fundamental rave anthems ‘Positive Education’.

Slam are still playing hard and inspire a whole new generation of techno-heads both in the UK and all over the globe. With a monthly residency in their Glaswegian hometown called Pressure at the infamous Arches, they also have a residency at The Sub Club called ‘Return to Mono’. We Love… welcomes Slam back this week on 2 September for the first of their two gigs with us this season, the second being on 23 September when they will be taking on the mighty Discoteca again.

Slam will also be playing on the We Love.. stage at Party in the Park in Scotland on Saturday 8 September alongside Carl Craig, James Zabiela and DJ Sneak.

Slam have provided us with this exclusive mix ahead of their gig this Sunday.

Also, here is a video of them playing live from the Beatport office in Berlin.

Residents Rule – We Love… Born Electric and James Zabiela

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Not just a pretty face

We Love… has now been James’ Ibizan home for 11 summers (and counting). And this year, not only is he wowing the crowd via his high-energy and highly creative sets, he is also curating four line-ups to play alongside him under his new label banner – Born Electric. The label will launch after the summer and will feature music that has caught JZ’s ear for both in the clubs and outside of them. It will also be an exciting blend of established and burgeoning talent.

In James’ own words “’Born Electric’ will be a home for my own music and music I love. And some of the artists I love will be playing at We Love… Space for our very own ‘Born Electric’ parties. That’s a whole lot of love.

‘We Love… have supported me for many years and to have a respected musical force such as them as a launching platform for Born Electric is amazing. Our outlooks on music have a lot of synergy.

“I’d say that both myself as a DJ and them as a promoter both disregard the genre in favour of just quality music that we enjoy regardless of its style and that is how our relationship has worked so well over the years.”

Fresh from his recent Resident Advisor podcast, Sunday August 19th sees James Zabiela host the biggest Born Electric line-up of the summer – James plays alongside Scuba, Paul Woolford vs Appleblim, George Fitzgerald and Jem Haynes.

Scuba recently released new single ‘NE1BUTU’ check the awesome video…

He also found the time to do a cheeky edit of the track under his SCB alias

Long time We Love… (and now) Born Electric favourite Paul Woolford is teaming up with the sublime Appleblim for a battle of the most pleasing kind for this party…

Whilst rising star George Fitzgerald is about to enjoy his second ever visit to Ibiza…For those not yet familiar with George (you soon will be!) check his recent Exit Festival set here

Our Musical Director Mark Broadbent adds ”As with everything that James has a hand in I know that he will have put in a lot of love and hard work into coming up with an amazing concept for his label.

“I’m proud that he has chosen his residency with us at We Love… as the testing ground for what I’m sure will be some really interesting music and musical collaborations over the summer months.”

We look forward to welcoming James Zabiela and Born Electric back to our Sunday place of worship this weekend.

We Love… Ministry Of Sound

We Love... London

We Love... London

Preceding our opening party at Space by one day our London Opening party at Ministry Of Sound on June 9th is set to kick the Summer off with a bang. Lineup wise we’re thrilled to have James Zabiela back in the Ministry main room. James is one of our longest serving residents and undoubtedly one of our favourite DJs. Joining him is Stacey Pullen whose closing set in the Discoteca last summer took the roof off. Techno all the way from the Detroit ambassador. Completing the main room bill are Catz ‘N Dogz. Having played for us last summer in the Red Box this will be their second appearance under the We Love banner with their third following shortly after when they make their Terrace debut on September 9th along with a gaggle of their DirtyBird label mates.

The 103 meanwhile plays host to Balearic legend Alfredo. There’s not a lot to be said about Alfredo that hasn’t already been said but it’s worth noting that without his early 80′s residency at Amnesia, Ministry Of Sound, We Love and the rest of the clubbing world we know probably wouldn’t exist. Alfredo will be presenting the Heritage Project all night long in the 103 with his son Jaime Fiorito. The father-son duo have been throwing their Heritage Project parties throughout the winter months in Ibiza and will continue to do so throughout the Summer with 4 dates on Space’s Premier Etage. Think old and new, think house and Balearic, think sunshine and think deep and you’re probably getting somewhere near what to expect. For more info check

We Love The Warehouse Project

Friday, September 30th, 2011

After a few years absence from the Manchester party circuit we are very pleased to be back at The Warehouse Project hosting something of an Ibiza closing party. For this special event we have invited some of our favourite acts from this Summer’s Space residents and guests.

Now in his tenth year as a We Love… resident, technical maestro James Zabiela headlines the event. Joining him is the true godfather of techno Derrick May. Nic Fanciuli makes a welcome return to the We Love fold and is joined by Ralph Lawson’s full live band 2020Soundsystem. Next up we have Geddes and newly initiated We Love resident jozif. Completing the line up Jem Haynes and Mat Playford bring the sounds of the Space Discoteca and Terrace respectively to the Picadilly car park.

James Zabiela – 10 Year Retrospective

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

We’ve had our song and dance about James’ 10 year residency at We Love, so now the family album. Let’s start at the end with this mix created by James just weeks ago, the first in his continuing journey of Paradigm Shifts.

We’ve probably got more photos of James than his mum has, and here’s one for starts (circa 2003) – hoping this whole thing isn’t moving into ‘This Is Your Life’ territory.

And from the jaws of Michael Aspel comes this little gem from ’07.

Again harking back to the pre-Pioneer days, anyone who can tell us what that mixer is wins, er… that mixer.

Listen to the dulcet tones of James Zabiela introducing his Spooky remix from way back in 2008 below.

A more up to date interview this time, with James discussing his birthday shindig on August 7th with Andy Wilson…

Footage from that night featuring kind words from his buddy Tom Budden

And finally the reaction he provokes in the room of doom – Space Discoteca, circa… (judging by attire) ’02.

Cheers James, here’s to another ten! Live long and prosper / Wookie hair for ever.

James Zabiela’s last gig at We Love for 2011 is fittingly at our closing on September 25th.

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Endings can be bitter-sweet but it’s a blockbuster day of the highest order for the closing party on September 25th. It’s down to heavy hitters Fatboy Slim and 2manydjs on La Terraza along with favourites Joris Voorn, Jem Haynes, Jason Bye and Ian C. There’s a triumphant return for Aphex Twin to the Discoteca after a performance last year already firmly in the annals of Ibiza folklore. Closing out his 10th season in Ibiza will be James Zabiela joined by Technasia, jozif and DJ Rephlex.

Expect big carefree vibes with Rock Nights on the Sunset Terrace with Rob Da Bank, Colin Peters and Andy Carroll. Once the sun goes down it’s After Dark with a special audio-visual showcase featuring DJ Cheeba, Soundcrash DJs and Mr Doris. Tirk Records are back for a final soiree in El Salon with Homoelectric’s Jamie Bull, Ben Terry and Matty J. As is becoming tradition, Clive Henry is on board in the Red Box for the closing along with Alex Arnout, Coley, Ryan O’Gorman and Scott Martin. Taking things to the break of dawn (and probably beyond) on the Green Valley Terrace is Alfredo, Ian Blevins, Jamie ‘Fatneck’ and Jon Howell.

Facebook event page here.

James Zabiela’s Birthday Party – ’10 Years with We Love’

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

He’s fast approaching adolescence and we’ve decided to pull out all the stops to help James celebrate both his birthday and 10 years playing with We Love Space, Ibiza. In honour of the occasion we’ve made the rare decision to allow James to programme proceedings in his ‘room of doom’ the discoteca this Sunday August 7th. He’s chosen UK bass upstart Pearson Sound / Ramadanman, the dextrous Apparat, old friend Tom Budden and techno pretenders Spektre. Listen to the podcast to hear James discuss the night ahead and watch James last Sunday in the video below…
